I listened to the presentations and reflected on the information that all the groups provided. I also reflected on the way that the presenters presented the information.

Group 1-

When I listened to group one, I very much enjoyed the presentation. The group was well prepared on the topic. Their powerpoint was clean, simple, and matched with the topic that they were discussing. Each presenter was well prepared for their portion of the presentation. I could tell that they worked together well and I could tell that they were, for the most part, comfortable speaking during the presentation. During their presentations, they highlighted very important factors in the benefits of public speaking. I particularly found the presentation on nervousness before your speech interesting and relatable. The presenter explained that there are actually benefits to feeling nervous before your speech. She also provided real-life examples of how to use your nervousness as a benefit. She explained that it is much better to speak about subjects you are passionate about or familiar with and I very much agree with her. The video for the “How to Listen” part of the presentation was informative and relatable as well. The presenter provided great tips that I find practical for those of us who may need more assistance in being good listeners.

Group 2 -

I also enjoyed group two’s presentation. Group two provided a lot of information in a way that made sense to me. As I listened to group two’s presentation, I couldn’t help but think that they were going a little too fast. It is difficult sometimes to understand what people are saying when they speak. Sometimes, I can understand what is being said when the speaker is speaking fast, however, I may not retain the information. All in all, I appreciated the speakers and the information that they provided. The information about researching your topic was very informative. It was also insightful when they presented on the different types of speeches. For the most part, the types of purposes for your speech are informative, persuasive, and entertaining. The presenters gave in-depth advice on maintaining your audience engagement. There are different things that we can do as speech deliveries such as making sure you are in closer proximity to them. Also, make sure that you maintain the general purpose of your speech. The presenter gave a detailed explanation on your working outline. This is a very good way to stay on purpose. This may not have been an interesting presentation, but the presenters discussed significant ways to tailor your speech and structure it in a way that enhances my overall speech.

Group 3 -

Group three’s presentation was really engaging. I can honestly say I enjoyed this one very much. I am very interested in psychology, so when the presenter began speaking about primary and recency effects. It piqued my interest, and I was fascinated with the information about how the memory works. For those who may not know, the primary effect states that we remember the first things we are told and shown. And the recency effect, states that we remember the most recent, or last thing that we are told or shown. Group three was effective in the way that they this concept. The group also discussed language. Language and culture are very important to me since I am not originally from the United States, and I had to learn the English language. It was good to hear talk about offensive language. The content of spoken vs written language was a bit wordy and difficult to follow. I believe that had more to do with the content than it did with the group’s presentation itself. I felt enlightened when listening to the presentation about “Factors that Influence Delivery”. This part of group three’s presentation clearly illustrated how there are multiple factors that influence your speech either in a positive way or in a negative way. I did notice that at some points, it was difficult to follow, but all in all, I really did enjoy this group.

Group 4 -

Group four’s information was not the most interesting, however, the group did a very good job explaining to us the different types of speech. They gave any tips on how to persuade someone if they did need to use persuasive speeches. The group discussed the three different types of persuasive speech as well. This group thoroughly disseminated information about informative versus persuasive speech. I am able to distinguish much more easily between the informative and persuasive speeches. Group four also provided information that helped us stay within the ethical scope of persuasive speech. It is important to know your audience when trying to convince or persuade and you need to make sure that you aren’t coercing or manipulating the audience. The group aimed to provide information on something that may not necessarily be interesting. In my opinion, they did a great job fulfilling that aim.
